About Green Docs

Mark Twain once famously said: “If you’re going to tell people the truth, you better make them laugh, or they’ll kill you.”  Doctors Bruce Bekkar and Nate DeNicola agree, and their big, twenty-first century mission is now underway – to encourage and empower expectant mothers to learn everything they can about their pregnancy, while also understanding the threats our changing climate poses to them and their growing babies over those crucial forty weeks…and beyond.

The inconvenient truth is, environmental factors are already affecting all of us in ways we don’t yet fully understand.  Luckily, Doctors Bruce and Nate have the credentials to speak to these issues head on, in a way that’s easy to understand, with humor and optimism, and to help us map our way through them effectively.  Climate change, to this point, has often been a phenomenon wrapped in an overabundance of doom, gloom and very scary information, and many expectant mothers are simply unaware of the risks specifically posed to them – until now.

Green Docs is a podcast designed to inform, equip, and encourage everyone and anyone about environmental health, and specifically, its effects on pregnancy health.  Expectant mothers will learn about threats to their unborn, like excessive heat, air pollution, extreme weather, plastics, unsafe water…but they’ll also learn about the flip side…the small choices they can make that have a larger positive impact.  Choices that will help create a future that they’ll be proud to pass on, and that they’ll enjoy living in.  Believe it or not, good things are happening out there, and the podcast builds on that momentum, delivering a positive, motivational message that invites listeners to become a part of that positive change, while making their lives better and protecting them at the same time.

Doctors Bruce and Nate cover it all with a light touch, in lively, interesting conversations with their equally provocative and charismatic guests.  As OGs in the growing movement of health professionals taking on climate change, Bruce and Nate will feature, among their guests, other "green docs" to discuss how they incorporate climate’s health impacts on their patients, “green” their practices and hospitals, or work towards policy solutions with elected officials. The stories are compelling, the delivery is fun, and the information given to the audience is the most current and trusted out there…and with so much talk in the zeitgeist about climate change, ours has the added benefit of being true.  It’s everything you ever wanted to know about your pregnancy that your doctor hasn’t told you.  Listeners leave each episode empowered with actionable steps, feeling relieved, entertained, and - hopefully - more than a little bit better about the big, bad world out there.  Join in and help deliver a better future…one healthy baby at a time.
